Systemic discrimination, also known as institutionalised discrimination, is a culture of discrimination that pervades the workplace, where discrimination is a regular feature of interactions and processes or happens over a long period of time.
It may also be defined by its impact, where the level of discrimination has a profound effect on the ability of the organisation to perform its role or to meet the demands of relevant legislation.
Systemic discrimination in the recruitment process could, for example, involve consistently offering lower wages to women than to men.
